The City of Stoughton is located 15 minutes south of the City of Madison on Hwy 51 and is just west of Interstate 39/90/94. The City was founded in 1847 and has a current population of approximately 13,000 people.
The City of Stoughton offers a small town atmosphere with big city convenience and amenities: major retailers, employers and financial institutions. Lake Kegonsa on the City's northwest side is still home to many summer folk as well as people who love to come for a day or weekend to fish, sail and swim.
Stoughton is famous for it's Syttende Mai festival, held each year on the weekend closest to May 17. Syttende Mai features an arts and crafts fair, quilt show, Village Player performances, street dances, Viking encampment, canoe race, 20-mile Run, 17-mile Walk, a sailboat race on Lake Kegonsa, a huge Norwegian parade, and local food stands everywhere!
